Good day to thee!
Another, very hot, blue sky day at Rossland!
Today is D-Day! (the day that matthew and James arrive!
Currently they are at Fernie Apline Resort having the day snowboarding, and then after that, they are to drive the long 8 hours down to us near the American boarder!
We had pretty much all of yesterday and today cleaning our little apartment for them. And now it looks very nice. Tonight we have planned to buy a big chicken! garlic bread and some pasta and sauce to go with it!
Today we have had the day away from the hill to give our tired legs a bit of a rest. We got up, had breakfast (raisen bran flakes) then settled down to watch the old will wonker for the second time on our tempremental little television. After my Brunch, Jessica has given me the nickname 'Daniel Two-Bagels'... And deservadly so!
Today i had to email angela to say that we couldnt work all the days she had suggested! For the two weeks that James and Matthew are here she wanted us to work everyday bar 2. Only because now Hilary has left to another part of Canada.
We are not quite sure how this will be resepted. Especially as it is her royal 'cat & oyster party' this friday!
Yesterday We went up to Red really early (for us) and got there about half 9. It was rather quiet we thought for a saturday (how wrong we were) and so we headed up silverload (the first lift) then traversed across to motherlode (the lift to take you to the top of Granite mountain and onto paradise side) when we arrived it seemed like the whole world and its dog was there!
The queue for the lift must have had about 200 people lining up infront of it!
We had a couple of runs and decided to make the most of the sun and walk back through the woods.
The day before that (Friday) was a really good day spent up and over on paradise side, stopping every time the snow chilled us too much at the lovely warm paradise lodge with its own real wood fire! Thus making 'southern comfort' our favourite run here at Red.
When we got home we had a lovely roast chicken dinner complete with brown cob. And for pudding we had Harry Potter and the something stone. It was really good and we even saw where we had been in Goathland! (god im turning into my dad!)
Right you are, i'm up and out of time. It might be a few days until we are able to write again as matthew and james both have weak bladders so will be difficult house guests!

It's SNOW time
Good day to you all from (for a change) snowy Rossland!
Wahey!
Finally yesterday afternoon, after 5 days of sun and blue skys, the cloads rolled in and it began to snow. And just in time too for Matthew and James' arrival this sunday!
Right i'll start last sunday, since i havent wrote for a while.
Sunday was another nice day to ride some ice and thats exactly what we did. We got a lift again with Kevin, our liftie friend. Even though he was running late for work! With punk rock blaring out of the speakers we handbreaked turned (on ice) to a stop at the hill.
We had a few runs down silverload side blues before heading up to the top to try paradise side! On the way Jess shouted me to stop and i turned around to see that Jess had been forced to stop because something was in the way of her on the piste. I thought to begin with it must be part of my binding, fallen off or something then. the little thing next to Jess started moving. It was a little squirel! Really cute little thing aswell. It wasnt fazed at all by Jess' presence and slowly made its way right past her over to the nearest tree.
When we arrived a the top of granite (2073 meters above sea level) we were told that paradise lift (the lift which services the other side of the mountain) had broken down, it had alot of agitated looking people on it.
As you can see from one of the photos on my last update of pictures.
We headed down to the bottom, watched a bit of the ski jumping on the tv's at the lodge, then walked home.
Monday - Jess was summoned to work, leaving me able to snowboard. We walked down toward Angelas and then i hitch hiked to the hill. I met with Tom there an older Canadian snowboarder who had picked me and jess up a few weeks back. We then headed up to the top and onto paradise side, bathed in sunshine, it was lovely and hot, with not a cloud in the sky!
I rode a bit with him on paradise side on 'Gamble' and 'Ruby Tuesday" then he headed off for a coffee at paradise lodge.
I got a total of 10 runs in that day, and by the end i was absaloutley nackered. I headed back over to red via buffalo ridge and main run. A super steep black run. And was amazed how cold the north side of the mountain was, compared with paradise.
I went to hitch hike then seeing how quiet it was i decided to walk/board home.
Later on me and Jess went out to the steamshovel (a pub just up the road from us) for a drink. We watched the curling on a big tv they had there. I had two pints of beer and jess had a jack daniels and coke, it came to $15.75!!! crazy we will wait until James and matthew come before having another drink!
Yesterday (Tuesday) Me and Jess went up the hill. We folled the same route i had done the day before, heading up and over onto paradise side. We rode 'southern comfort' again and again. It's a lovely wide, not too steep blue run with trees either side.
Jess made the most of the excellent conditions doing some really nice linked turns.
We had a lunch of Jam sandwiches and fruit bar over at paradise lodge then came home via the (now very very icey) 'Buffallo ridge'/'main run' way. Jess hadnt been on a black before, and with it being soo icey, it was very hard work for the both of us.
Both tired out, we decided to have a sitting down heal slip race.
Pheww... Im tired of all this typing now!!
Today! Right well today we decided on a day of seeing as both of us are very achey and tired. We walked through the woods up to the hill (which takes about 45 minutes) had some lunch at the lodge whilst watching indoor skating, folled by and excellent hockey match between Switzerland and America. At one point when Switzerland scored everybody in the lodge cheered. Very funny.
After we walked home, now feeling very cold, we popped home for a cup'a tea then out to the shops for make up remover, eye pencil? and moisteriser.
Having a Jessica can be very expensive sometimes!!! Haha.
After this we are going to pick another film to watch tonight. We have exhausted all of the videos here long ago, so now we are onto the childrens section. So i think tonights film will either be, a bugs life, babe or Dumbo 2 (Dumbo strikes back)
Oh and tomorrow me and Jessica will be off to Angelas again for some much needed money (if we ever actually get paid)
Bye for now!!

oo chimpanzee that! He's only gone and written it down!!
hello one and all to the new mr bloggins!
right, first off, i'm not going to make the mistake of not writing in this most days as when i don't my crazy mother decides to ring up 'crazy legs' angela to find out of we're okay!
So today we have just got back from the hill.. Just like every other day this week! It's been the first week we have had here of solid snowboarding.
The weather here as usual is blue sky's and hot, and not a snow cloud in sight! Grrr..
But we made the most of the slush and ice having a really excellent few days.
Today it was a bit harder than usual to get up and out. Feeling a bit tired from the rest of the week boarding we took it slow and were out for about 10.30, waiting until about 11.00 to get picked up! When we arrived we were amazed how quiet it was for a saturday! No kids at all.
We did alot of the blue runs from silverlode; Red Eagle, Nest Egg, Blue Bird and Northern Bell..
Doing about 6 or 7 runs in total. Then at the end of the day i went up Red as usual to do another blue/black from there.
Yesterday i had a rather embarrassing fall from one of the chair lifts.. As i reached the top of Red to do my 'end of the day run' i came off the steep ramp from the lift a bit off balance and subsiquently crashed head on into the little metal posts at the side of the lift area, ripping each one out of the ground as i went and getting the rope all wrapped round my leg. When i finally came to a stop i noticed my bindings had exploded aswell, with all the little screws scattered across the snow.
A chap next to me at the top said 'are you okay?' after i confirmed i was he laughed his head off for about five minutes.
My ego in tatters, i headed down, taking some excellent pictures of Rossland.
On the way down, a little lad on a snowboard turned round and looked at me intently for a few moments, then said, ''hey! nice bindings"
Today Jess really got on with her exiting the lift and has finally managed it! Woohoo! With a little help from our new song.
"Lean on your front leg, Jessie, Jessie"
"Don't lean back and be scared, Jessie, Jessie"
"It will only hinder you my little Jessie Goose!"
"Don't forget to push off, Jessie, Jessie"
"Make sure to keep that board straight, Jessie, Jessie"
"You did it, you did it! My Little Jessie Gooooooose"
Last night and again tonight we have been/are going to watch the godfather again. WHich is good fun, however, because the film is quite old, the tv stops even more frequently. However, now, being a master of the reaching broom, this takes little to no effort to fix!
We are even becoming more intune with the noises of the tv, guessing when its about to turn off.
Are we the most boring people on earth?? i think so.
We are counting down the hours until James and matthew arrive so we have new things to do!!
Tomorrow evening we have decided (against our better money saving judgement) to go out for a drink at the steamshovel pub just up the road from us!! At the hill beer is $4.25 each!!!! crazy. So we havent had one drink out yet, hopefully it will be cheaper here.
Had another strange dream last night, only a short one though. I was round at Jess's house and feeling a bit peckish. Jess's mum said that there were "some little plum pies out in the garden" if i wanted one,"the kind they had on titantic!"
She went out and got me one from a little brown bag behind the bird table. It was really nice!
The next day Jess showed me a video of the previous night of me sat in my blue turtle neck??? drinking beer and speeking to Jess and her family.
Anywho we better be off now! Our time here is up. But hopefully we wil be in tomorrow to put some of the photos i took of Rossland from Red mountain on. Its a really good view when its perfect visability.
Only a week until the two brothers arrive now!
Then no more hitch hiking for two weeks!

Hello! It's 6.30 pm and we are in the library.. Jessie's sat on the computer next to me tip tapping away madly at the keyboard and occasionally holding up her little thumb (that she hurt earlier today) and going 'owwww'
Poor Jessie!
Today is Wednesday.. soo ill start with Monday first as i havent wrote in a few days.
Monday morning came and because of some fresh snow i decided to go on down to Angelas for a bit of work. Leaving Jess at home who tidied the apartment beautifully and then went to the library to use the computer.
I got down to Angelas about 10.30. To start off with i had to help hillary carry some bits and pieces over from the guesthouse. Then sort a few more bits out like fill up the hot tub and check its chemical levels etc.. After this i was then told to clear both driveways. I quite enjoyed the work because suprisingly Angela was no where to be seen. And usually she's a right pain the arse telling you to stop what youre doing every five minutes. After two and a half hours of undisterbed drive way clearing, i had finished and had to go and see where Angela was. She was watching George Grey in the olympics! So that explains my good day of work! Thank god for the olympics.
After about 30 minutes i decided i had finished and toddeled off home and found Jess on the computer at the library.
The rest of the day was spent, drinking tea, relaxing, reading and watching love actually for the second time. I honest to god would have never dreamt of watching that sort of film before. But with the limited choice of VHS's left at the library to choose from, we were left little choice. And in the end i actually, very strangly, enjoyed it.
Yesterday (Tuesday) we headed up for a day snowboarding. We had a good day, and with the new snowfall it made it a lot nicer.
It snowed for most of the day on and off and we got a lot of runs in.
Jess had a few more of her ''ooooo!!!' falls which made us laugh.. Most people, before they fall, are silent, trying to rectify the problem. Jess on the other hand can be flying through the air and at the same time going " ahhhh! i dont like itttt" then crashing.
Very funny to see.. Aww i sound mean now! but it is and Jessie isn't hurt!
We came home, read for a few hours. Jess is reading a jodie picoult book and im onto 'Summits' - by joseph poindexter, who's name made both me and Jess laugh :) simple things.
After that i went to the shops to get some more supplys. I did some excellent shopping, nabbing us some real bargains, like the 2 litre carton of Raisin juice for only 99 cents!! un-bloody-believable.
Back at home i had spag bol (with bread) mmm.. sagetti sandwiches... and no mum in sight to tell me not to muhahahaha.
Jess had a 'Jessie special' which is - some trail mix (nuts and berries), a banana and yoghurt.
Then we watched half of 'the godfather 2' ..
Today! Hurrrrrray!
Today we overslept our 7.15 alarm, waking up at 9.00!! crazy. We quickly got up, had some breakfast and went out up the lung-bursting hill to our hitch hiking point. We waited for 10-15 minutes before being picked up... Rossland is getting sloppy!
We had 4 runs on the steadier blue runs from silverlode chair lift. Then popped inside for a rest and some lunch. Inside the lodge they have tv's so we managed to catch a bit of the down hill racing and mens half pipe. There were alot of kids on the slopes today, 200 according to our liftie friend Adam.
Saw a chap fall off of the lift today just after getting on. He had really long skies and just as the lift starts to rise up he caught them on the ramp pulling him off the chair! Luckily he was only about a meter off the floor.
After lunch we went up to the top having a really good run down. Even with the bits of new snow we've had over the last 3 days today was the iciest ive ever expierienced! We did another run then went in for a cup of tea. I went out up red leaving Jess with the olympics. I did one run coming down 'steilhang' then onto the 'face of red' it was soo icey. I found it hard, catching my edge twice.
Me and Jess sat for a little while longer, and after collecting a free fruit bar (which someone had left under a table) we headed home, getting picked up by a chap from london.
There was only two seats in the truck so i was in the back with the cleaning products.
Tonight we have to pop to the shops for some food then its more godfather to finish off : )
Right thats it for now, hopefully we will have some great adventures snowboarding tomorrow: of Jessies backflip off a cliff drop or dans 900 degree spin to tell you all about.
Now with Jessicas restelssness its time to end. She's now pacing up and down each isle of books, now and again coming back to tell me her little thumb aches!
Bye for now!

Helloo!
Thursday was a really good day, the best we have had on the hill so far! We did a few of the blue runs then we headed up to the top of granite for Jess' first time!
She got onto the motherlode (an old 2 person lift) really well, after the long ascent we arrived on the top at just over 2000 meters. She exited the lift perfectly just how we had practised again and again on silverlode. Keeping her board straight and leaning over her front leg a little, she was doing well but because of our slow boards (not waxing them) she stopped before the down hill part and was scooped back up from the chair lift! And then had to exit the chair again, which she did very well : ) it looked hilarious, and we sat laughing for a while.
Once (safely) away from the lift we headed down to Rino's run, an amazingly nice green run which takes you right from the top down to the bottom at silverlode lift.
We made the most of the new snow spending the whole day out on the slopes.
At the end, both of us were ready for a rest.
Once home we had a lovely dinner of pasta and chicken then sat watching lord of the rings until 12.30! our latest night all holiday!
Today (Friday) we have decided to have a 'rest day' and are having the day at the library and sorting boards out. We just popped over the street to the thrift store to see if we could pick up an iron, which we did with great success! $1.50 got us our brand new third hand iron. Now we can finally wax our painfully slow boards.
We shall see if it actually works later on..
We are currently in the library and once finished here (just gone over my alloted 1 hour slot on the computer) we shall pop across the road to rossvegas (snowboard shop) and purchase some new board wax!!
hopefully cheap board wax : )
Then after that we shall probably pick another old VHS to watch! What shall it be today.. the king and i, oliver twist, the magic roundabour and many more classic titles! but i cant really complain as they're all free!
Right i shall now say cheerio and see you tomorrow hopefully after a full fun packed day of snow riding!

Camp two, Kathmandu!
Alright ducks : )
Dan and Jess comin at ya!
Well i haven't spoken to you in about 3 days now so i thought i better! Well, Monday came and it was time to go back to horrible work! wahey! We begrudgingly scrambled down the steep ice hill to Angelas guest house. GOing there can turn any day bad. As soon as we see it, a terrible feeling of dread comes over you. We wandered upto the door, knocked, took a deep breathe and went in.
''I notice your home smells of faeces. And not just monkey faeces either!'' - is the line from 'the simpsons' i'm instantly reminded of as you enter Angela's house! It must be the stench of having 4 crazed cats pottering around that does it! Angela is on the phone, complaining to someone about how much it will cost to repair her cooker. She makes quick meaningless hand signals to us. I notice that the cooker has been pulled out and that behind it is about a foot of dust and what looks like cat 'leavings'. Once she is done with the phone call, she gives jess the covented job of cleaning behind the cooker. I have to go with the wicked witch of the west to sort out the upstairs rooms.
To make polite conversation i say to Angela, 'So you've not been too busy then since the winter festival' .
Angela barks a reply, in her loving, almsot motherly way, "that's what i told you in the email yes!"
I should have learnt by now that witches can't make conversation!
After this, and a few other mind numbing jobs, i am finally allowed outside to shovel snow! Its a lot harder than being inside but i like it soo much more because you're safe from the evilness!
I am given the job of clearing snow (which turns out to be 3 foot of packed ice) off of both garage roofs. I find the ladder, and prop the ricketiest old battered looking thing up against the wall and climb. I luckily decided to use breeze blocks to support the bottom because as i neared the top it was moving quite alot in the soft snow. Once up i started with the metal shovel, easy enough work and the perfect tool for cutting through ice. I should be done in 10 minutes i thought!..
"Nooo Nooo Nooo!" - belowed Angela.
"the last time someone used that shovel on my roof they cost me a new roof"
"use the plastic one"
So i finished the job with the floppy plastic shovel. It took 2 hours.
Jess didnt have it all good though, she got Angela to work with for the last hour. WHo decided that Jessies little arms were perfect for carry big tv's and heavy things upstairs.
Dripping with swet, underpaid and hungry. We walked home.
At least we had some moolah!
Yesterday (Tuesday) we got all our gear on, packed our lunch, then sat talking. We talked, talked and talked. Then realizing the time and considering the no new snow, decided against riding ice and had a day sorting things our in Rossland.
We finished the day off by renting another lovely old film, this time it was Billy elliot! What a 'edge of your seat thriller' that turned out to be!! Naa it was actually quite good, and the reaching broom (the stick from the balcony we now use to turn the tv back on after it turns itself off) came in very handy!
Today! Weeee.
Today we made no mistake of talking. We got straight up, eat a breakfast of bran flakes and tea and was straight out the door.
We were promptly picked up by a friendly canadian chap who spoke endlessly up to the hill.
We rode 'Blue bird' and 'Northern bell', Jess excelling again with her turns.
After a good few runs and some lunch we decided to call it a day. The snow was the worse it has been since we have been here, soo icey, and even soily in some places!!
We need some snow very soon.
I had one run down from Red mountain on 'salleys alley' giving a great view of Rossland and our apartment!
A good day done!
Thats prettty much it. Until next time, keep watching the skiiiiiiieees!
Now with Jess sat giggling away next to me i bid you farewell.

Now.. the news at 3:52!

Dan shoddoly completes first double black, tree run!

Found a house for matthew and James... maybe!

My crazy ass dream!
(bong)
4 and a half hour reading session!
We have just got the library after a day up on red mountain. We got home about an hour ago after a super cramped ride back to Rossland in annonymous Canadians golf mk4. Spoke to mumble and pops on the phone and now we are here. Today Jess' riding was really good again, though the same couldnt be said about her exiting from the chair lift. She caught her back edge bumping her bottom and head! poor little Jessie. Ive never before seen somone improve soo quickly at snowboarding and yet soo slowly at getting off the lift!
It was really foggy at the bottom but after the ride up silvelode the cload lifted to produce a bright 'summer-like' day with temperatures of +6! Crazy hot.
We had a few runs then had some lunch. Jess decided to have a bit of a rest from the chair lift falls and wait inside the lodge, while i went up red.
Exiting the Red chair lift in 'Jess-esque' style, i took the main run down red 'face of red' its soo steep and amazing. However, with snow on it, it would be a dream!
Then after seeing Jess i went up again and decided to walk on the wild side! Heading Down towards War Eagle trees & Poochie trees, never before have i seen such hard terrain as that. Its steep beyond belief and packed with trees. I tried my best with little success. Having to dig myself out of the odd gully or two. Absaloutley nackered and dripping with swet i got out and onto sallys run or something like that and headed down. Home time had never felt soo good.
Yesterday, after being summoned to pay the rent, i went $780 dollars in hand, over to the horrid people at century 21 (the whole crazy gang was there, Darrin & christine and crazy hair small guy) I handed to moolar over to small guy, and he wrote my reciept.. "whats your name again?"
"Dan"
"Dnn?"
"No, DAN"
''Den?"
"D.A.N" (he understood)
I asked about the bed, and it looks like its going to take until wednesday to get one.. We're not holding our breathe though.
"We might have one for you Wednesday...so come in Tuesday"
(how does that makes sense? I'll go Wednesday.)
Me and Jess walked to Cafe boots and had some tea anmd a a scone, it was lovely. I left Jess there and went down to Thompson Avenue to look at the house for James and matthew. It was nice inside than i expected, with the lovely big labrador meeting me at the door to lick my knees and steel my shoes. Its a bit cluttered but nice enough. Christa is the 35 year old skier who owns it, and already rents a room out to a 18 year old snowboarder (hence the xbox)
(Just had to stop typing as Crazy legs Angela came into the library so we had to hide!)
Anywhoo, back to the house. The room upstairs is basic to say the least. A matress on the floor of a 4meter x 4 meter room.
So, maybe (matthew and James) we will need to see if we can get another matress or something?
Apart from that, and it being 15 minutes walk from town. Its not bad for $300..
Now, Jess thought i should put this in because it made her laugh. I had a really wierd dream the other night. It started when i popped over to my mum and dads house (who now living in Rossland) I told them that me and Jess had just spent 4 and a half hours reading! (actually true) and they said ahh, you shoulkd have popped over to use our swimming pool and hot tub! They were having a wale of a time in there big place. Then out of the blue, Martin from M.G.S came into the room with his clan, they too were renting the house with ma and pa. How much did you pay for this place? said martin.. Ahh i got it cheaper (he wwas thrilled)
Then Wondering where jess was i went home. She had gone to her grammas (also in Rossland) But she had been there ages. I text her with no reply, went onto the interenet and there she was messaging all her friends and some of mine! (Andy and Dom) well she sure wasnt hurrying back.
Anywho, that didnt matter as i had a place to be! I went down and took my place in the crowd, on some kind of weird stage with lots of people watching. Then a presenter person with a microphone started saying "now anyone who is under 6ft is aliminated!" It was some sort of wierd game show and i knew i had a good chance of winning if it was down to height.. Next to me there was 'Sophie' from the tv show 'peepshow' she looked worried. (This would have been down to the fact shes rather small).
Then some crazy music kicked in and we all started dancing! Then deciding thatthis might give me a better chance at looking even taller. I started dancing crazily waving my spider-long, spinddley legs and arms around in the air like a monkey! This, obviously looking incredible, drew alot of attention. "hey look at that guy, he's really tall!"
My plan had worked. I woke up to the horrible Nokia alarm.
I never found out whether i won the competition or not : (
Right whats next.. ahh yes, t'other evening, me and jess, feeling bored again decided to read our books. Jess reading her 'Rebbeca' and me with 'Tomaz Humar'. We read and read and read. Looked at the clock andit was 10.30 p.m, we had read for just under 5 hours! Crazy.
My book is really good and im just about finished now. Wanting to know abit more about the excellent climber Tomaz Humar, i checked on the internet. And it turns out that he died just two months ago! It felt really strange to have just read his life stories, about his close calls with death, amazing climbs/escapes, only to find out he died soo recently.
Strange.
Right i better go as Jess has just reminded me that i have to email Angela and Matthew.
Bye for now!

Hello again!
Coming up on this edition of 'Whats new in Rossland with Dan & Jess'
Right so i'll start at the begining of the list.. It hasn't really snowed here since about two weeks ago, which is starting to get annoying!! We have a few specks here and there, but maybe a few centimetres at most.
The only good part of this is that the slopes are even quieter than usual. Jess seems to be improving more and more now that she is attempting steeper harder terrain. And i did my first tree run which was more of a leisurely potter through the trees as it was soo moguled up by skiers that trying to turn my 161cm wide board between them was like trying to turn a bus on a forest town council estate!! It just doesnt work.
The other week we noticed to our dismay a very large black thing in the courner of the room. I had a look and saw this dead, rather large, strange looking bug. It was like a beetle spider.
Then the day after when i went over to move it, i noticed a twitch of life. I checked it for any leg movement, or maybe a bit of wing and sure enough it very slowly started walking around.
I put a glass over it and through it out.
Since then i have seen one in another chaps car who picked us up and then again today! One just appereard on the floor of our apartment, once again very slow and clumsy looking. How does something that slow get up two flights of stairs and through two locked doors!! i went to pick it up and it spread its wings to reveal and bright orange body.
Needless to say, I made a hastey escape out into the bathroom.
Confidence somewhat restored i very cunningly placed a glass over it and through it out again.
Danger overted.
NEXT...
Jess has started reading, finished and started another dull sounding book. Which i have (very skillfully) managed to block out the names to both!
I, on the other hand have started reading the action packed 'Tomaz Humar' climbing book which Jessica got me! Its really awesome! With big pictures of mountains, ice axes and more action than a action man packed with explosives!
Lads! lads! lads! Boozin boozin boozin!
{computer just crashed}
Anywhoo, where was i..
As the nights get even more boring as we run out if things to do, we did one more big drawing session, Jess creating some excellent pictures of strange creatures and myself bringing the apartment to life giving each broken piece of furniture or electric appliance a name and personality.
Like to shower that screams, the old 'should have retired long a go' broken noise the fridge makes every hour. Or how the little cooker 'bangs!' 10 minutes aafter use to tell us how disgruntled he is at cooking cheese on toast again!
Whats nextt..... Oh yes, yesterday i went up silverload lift myself, leaving jess to have a break in the cafe talking to the 80 year old skier lady who had just been skiing with Rino who 'Rino's run is named after.. (the route i took the other day from the top of granite..)
I went over to the lift and spoke to Adam the Czech liftie who we speak to a couple of times a day and who gave us a lift home the other day.
He very cunningly asked whether me and Jess we're 'together' or just friends, with a more than customery interest, and looked a bit dissapointed at the answer. Jess of course (after hearing this) was very pleased with herself, the little show off!
Now the last three bits of interest-ment.. Spoke to the the women with the room for rent that matthew had sent me.. (for when they come to stay) and i arranged to view it friday evening to see what its like.
Yesterday, to our suprise, we opened the door to find a note and a knackered looking old kettle, the note was from our Nazi lanlords, saying that they cant get us a bed, dvd player obviously out of the question and that someone was coming to view our property so if we wouldnt mind being out then that would be great. Two weeks after i asked for a BED!! grrrrrr.
Oh and last and certainly least, the strangeness of the library staff continues! Not only is there 'margeret' the strange very quietly spoken, passive-aggressive woman which you cant tell if she loves or hates you. Theres the 'boss' who is a nasty piece of pie (thanks jess) who makes damn sure you dont sit at the wrong computer or spend one second too long on it!
Anywho, Good bye for now!
p.s - bring us, tea, aqueous cream, contact solution and clean clothes... PLEASEEEEEEE!
Coming up on this edition of 'Whats new in Rossland with Dan & Jess'
- Little bit of snow, but we desperatly need more!
- Seen two more of the crazy looking bugs!
- Dan & Jess on new books
- More pictures drawn at night!
- Jess has an admirer!
- Matthew & James might have a place to stay!
- We get a message from our lanlords! (will it be a bed, dvd or kettle!!)
- Strange but True library staff!

Bird always has and always will be the word..
Today is the day of days.. Well i had to start it somehow!
Hows everyone going? Feel free to comment the blog at the bottom if you want to, we're desperately lonesome.
Anywho, i haven't done one of these for a few days soo ill try and remember you what happended t'other days n all.
Yesterday we decided to have a rest day from snowboarding and more importantly work, as i have sprained my wrist. We went to the shops and got some odds and ends. Wondered over to the Cafe, sat reading a few books for a bit. Popped to the library to put the photos on. Then i went to fetch a few bottles of Kokanee (one of the local beers that matthew recommended) went home, had a lovely dinner together.
We spent the rest of the night listening to some top tunes on our CD player and drawing more pictures to put around our apartment to brighten it up, some of which that Jess drew are excellent!
These include:
dancing fruit
a picture of an alien judge.. (ooh golly an alien judge....!)
pictures of me an Jess
People from back in England
and many more..
We woke up today feeling a bit tired but ready to get back out and up the hill. We got picked up by a french-canadian chap called Giles(pronounced Gille) he was a nice guy and dropped us off at the slope on his way to work. We spoke to Bjorn, one of the first people we met in ROssland who was at the mountain shadow hostel with us. He told us that he and his brother were leaving red next week, heading of to Nelson for a few days, then making there way over to Vancouver Island for some work.
We had a couple of runs on a green to get warmed up then went onto blues, with our favourite run of the day being 'Blue Bird' a lovely steady run with some steep and interesting terrain. This was a bit more of a challenge for Jess but she coped excellently putting in the best performance to date. We completed 6 runs today, the most up to yet and stopped almost until the lifts were closing (3:00pm).
We walked to our hitch hiking point and just as we got there we were promptly picked up by Adam a Czech liftie who we have spoken to a few times on the slopes. He's really friendly and helped us get our boards into his old white vauxhall cavalier. Almost as good as the guy with the old retro cadillac with bright red swaid interior that he managed to pick up for a $100!
There are some many VW golfs and Jetta's here! They all look soo cool, i'd love one of my own but i dont think it will happen.
Now i cant wait until tomorrow to go back out up to the slopes to keep Jess improving.
Right i better be off now, going to see if this house is available for to rent for when matthew and James come. Then its of to Ferraro Foods to get some munchies!!
