Hello everyone its Dan and Jess at the library again!
We only have 40 minutes this time as the library staffs communist take on sharing the computers around equally takes an even harder stance!
Right so we have finally moved into our new home now, its a one bedroom apartment right in the centre of town (washington street, right near columbia avenue) It has a small living area, kitchen, bathroom and then the master bedroom, which is in reality a small grey room with a matress on the floor. But the bedroom does have one thing going for it, its location! its perfectly situated right over the dryers and washers downstairs, so that in the middle of the night when someone decides to do there washing and almighty roar fills the room which is soo load that you can almost here what they are washing!!
But apart from that it feels brilliant to finally have our new place sorted. We couldnt have spent many more nights in the confines of the hostel (which we deemed 'the fun house') due to its slanty walls, windows and frames! Our place is even starting to look more like home with our lucky charm and crispy golden graham cereals! Theres not much in the way of entertainment though at home, what with our tv that isnt connected and only has a VHS player in it! (theres only soo many times you can watch the batman film cartoon style) But anyway, who needs entertainment when you have these wonderful mountains all around!
Sunday was our first day in our new jobs : ) we got round to Angelas guesthouse about 10.00 after spending an hour in subway drinking orange pickoe tea building up our courage! When we arrived we were promptly split up. Jess sent to the other guesthouse to toil inside with hillary (another worker on a gap year, from New Zealand)Whilst i was left with Angela over in the mad house! Luckily i was to work outside so she set me straight to work smashing ice, clearing the driveway, and all the paths around the house. She didnt seem half as crazy as before ( i think maybe she was a little hungover today) but her nastyness made up for that no end! I had two hours doing that on my own (luckily) whilst Angela went to check on Jess in the other guesthouse... Jess worked with hillary all day and then with Angela when she came across to shout orders at her or throw towels at her. I think i was pretty lucky to be outised and away from it all! After i had finished with clearing snow from all the paths, roofs, balconys, the cats outdoor poopenhausen and the driveway i was then 'taught' how to use the snow blower (which is a pretty grandious term for my 2 minute "push this then that... Not that!!" then sent on my way over to the guesthouse to clear the huge driveway which took about 45 minutes. Now pretty efficient on my new machine, i then cleared all the paths with it. By this time it was about 4:00 and i was starting to flag, having not had anything to eat or drink since breaky!I finished all my jobs and ask if we could go but the devil witch gave me the choice of waiting for jess who would only be 20 mins or doing a little bit extra and making more money. so i said okay and was then given the job of clearing the snow (all 4ft of it) off of the roof of her garage, which is about 20 meters long and the same wide! The best part was being told to walk along the iciest wall from her front balcony over to the garage roof. So like indian jones i managed to slip along ith to the foof and to safety! Once there i realised that this job would take forever! And it did. I shovelled and shovelled waiting for little Jessie to pop her head out and say we could go. which she did an hour and a half later! Just as i cleared the last bit of ice from the roof. Absaloutley nackerd (but a hundred dollars better off) we trudged home, stopping at subway so that i could devoure the biggest subway i had ever made! : ) very nice indeed.
Woke up the next day with everything aching and so we headed down to Trail by bus to sort out our Social Insurance numbers, which we did with haste as Trail is not a town you want to spend any length of time in. We did a bit of shopping then headed home. Lovely pretty Rossland!! It was very nice to be back up high in our pretty town. Jess cooked us some rice and chicken while i shaved my hair into a mowhawk again then we played battleships (managing for the first time to end it without an argument!)
Today was our third day on the hill. We gotup to the hill for 10 and it was dead! no one at all, there must have been only about 100 people on the whole hill! Having the hill to ourselves Jess improved no end and by the end was linking her turns very nicely! we did three runs together until about 1 then i headed up alone for one last blast before hitch hicking home with a nice chap who found it hard to belive we could snowboard at all being brits. Then laughed alotat how we pay to use indoor ski slopes. He dosnt know how lucky he is to live here!
Right, our time is up now and so we must leave. Off the the shops to get some supplys and to find Jess a beanie.Oh and see if my money has finally arrived!! Hope everyone is well and having fun too : )
Speak soon Dan and Jess xxx
